Y Membership Update

Dear Y Members,

Minnesota Governor Walz recently announced a loosening of some of the restrictions placed on gyms and pools beginning January 11, 2021.    We are so glad we are able to provide more activities and want to give you the important information below on our safety plans so you are prepared when you visit the Y.

Key Updates:

  • Reservations are required for all areas of the YMCA.  Please visit our website at and click on the COVID-19 tab to make a reservation. 
  • Masks must be worn at all times in the Y facility except when swimming or showering.  Please help keep our staff and members safe by wearing your mask over your nose and mouth at all times.
  • Locker rooms and showers are now available. 

Youth Sports

  • Pond Hockey is scheduled to begin on Monday, January 11th. Registrations are still being accepted. Masks are required for play.
  • Youth Basketball for Kindergarteners and First Graders is scheduled to begin on Monday, February 1st. Masks will be required for players and spectators. Registration is now open.
  • Youth Basketball for 2nd and 3rd Graders will begin on Monday, March 1st. As far as we know now, masks will be required for players and spectators. Registration is open.

In-Person Group Exercise:

  • Class sizes are limited to ensure at least 9 feet of distancing between participants. 
  • Face coverings must be worn by all persons in the classes at all times.
  • Virtual workouts remain available. For more information on how to participate go to:


  • Lap swimming is available for one person, per lane, per reservation. 
  • Face masks will not be required while swimming and exercising in the pool.  Face masks must be worn until entering and upon exiting the pool.
  • Water Exercise will offer in-person classes beginning the week of January 18.
  • Swim lessons are not available at this time.  


  • Open gym allows for one person per basketball hoop.  No games. 
  • Singles pickleball play is available with a reservation.
  • Pod play for basketball and pickleball will begin the week of January 18th, barring any unforeseen circumstances.
  • Masks are required at all times in the gymnasium, even during play. No spectators are allowed.    

The following services are unavailable:

  • Saunas
  • Active Living Center
  • Day Passes and Punch Cards

In this new year, we appreciate your continued diligence to help keep your fellow members and our community safe by wearing masks, maintaining social distancing, washing hands and staying home when sick or exposed to someone with COVID-19.

Minnesota Guidelines for Group Classes Beginning January 4, 2021

Group Classes, Sessions, and Activities: Beginning January 4, 2021, in-person group classes,
sessions, and other activities (“classes”) are permitted only if the following requirements are met:

 Each class must be held in a designated, separate, self-contained space that physically
separates the group activities from all other activities at the facility.
 Classes cannot exceed 10 persons, which include all participants, instructors, and persons in the
class area. Businesses must use the following calculation to determine maximum number of
persons allowed in the area where the class is being held.
 A reservation system must be established for each class.
 Access into the class area must be restricted to members of the class with a reservation, or an
instructor. Other persons, including other workers, members, observers, or spectators are not
permitted into the class area while the class is in progress.
o Workers are permitted in the class area to film or facilitate remote or virtual classes,
sessions, and activities, but must be included when determining the maximum number of
persons permitted in within the class area while the class is in progress.

 During classes, all persons within the class must maintain distancing of at least 12 feet from
others. Individual areas for each person must be identified and demarcated in the class area to
ensure social distance of at least 12 feet is maintained. Examples include taping the floor with
12 foot squares, providing stanchions or partitions, or pre-positioning mats. Physical contact
between persons is not permitted.
 When classes are not occurring (e.g., before class, when setting up, or when exiting), social
distance of 6 feet must be maintained between individuals at all times. Even persons from the
same household must comply with these social distancing requirements.
 Face coverings must be worn by all persons in the class at all times.
 Consumption of food or beverage is not permitted in the class area. Persons may remove their
face coverings briefly to consume water, but members of the class must not be engaged in any
activities involving physical exercise or exertion while doing so and must ensure they are socially
distanced from others.
 Virtual group classes, sessions, and other activities are strongly encouraged over in-person
group classes, sessions, and other activities.
